This half term, we will explore stories with familiar settings, using The Pirates Next Door, by Jonny Duddle, as our key text. We will make predictions about the text and explore characters, settings and events whilst developing our story and descriptive writing skills. By the end of the unit, children will be able to write their own story, inspired by The Pirates Next Door.

We will also explore riddles. Children will read and solve a range of riddles before learning how to create engaging clues through descriptive language. Children will then write their own riddles and there will be opportunities for the children to share these with their peers.

Later in the term, we will learn how to write non-chronological reports, focusing on the theme of autumn - developing our skills in researching, organising and presenting factual information.

Alongside our English units, we will continue to develop word reading and comprehension skills through daily phonics and guided reading sessions.
