Mathematics

We are preparing for our SATs at the moment.  We are brushing up on our arithmetic, reasoning and organisation of work in readiness for the week beginning 13/05/2024.

After this we will be looking at projects that encompass all the knowledge we have learnt in primary school and apply these to a set of different challenges and projects such as spirals or architects and builders.

RE

Religious Education is at the heart of our learning. It helps all children—whatever their faith background—grow in understanding, respect, and spiritual awareness, while deepening their own connection with God.

This term, we are following the Salford Diocese pilot scheme, which supports our mission to nurture children’s faith and values in a meaningful and inclusive way.

In the first half of the term, pupils will study To the Ends of the Earth. They will learn about the events following Jesus’ resurrection, focusing on how the disciples were given the mission to spread his message to people everywhere. Through stories from the Bible, discussion and reflection, children will explore the importance of courage, faith and perseverance. Pupils will consider how the message of Jesus continues to be shared around the world today and reflect on how they can live out these values in their own lives.

Through prayer, scripture, discussion, and creative activities, we aim to create a space where every child feels valued and encouraged to grow in faith, compassion, and understanding.

Being My Best

As part of our Year 6 learning, we are encouraging children to think about what it means to “be their best.” This includes building confidence, making thoughtful choices, developing independence, and learning how to stay safe while trying new things.

Developing Confidence and Resilience

Children are supported to step outside their comfort zones in a safe and structured way. This might include speaking in front of others, taking on leadership roles, or trying new activities. We help them understand that mistakes are part of learning and growth.

Understanding Safe Risk-Taking

An important life skill is learning how to assess and manage risk. Children will explore:

  • The difference between safe and unsafe risks
  • How to think ahead and make responsible decisions
  • How to recognise when something feels wrong and seek help

This helps them become more independent while staying safe.

Basic First Aid Awareness

Children will also be introduced to simple first aid skills, such as:

  • Knowing how to respond in an emergency
  • Understanding basic care for minor injuries (cuts, bumps, burns)
  • Learning how to get help quickly and responsibly

The aim is not to replace professional care, but to help children feel calm, capable, and prepared if something happens.

This learning connects closely with our RE lessons, where children explore values such as:

  • Responsibility – caring for themselves and others
  • Compassion – helping those in need
  • Courage – making good choices, even when it feels challenging
  • Respect for life – understanding the importance of safety and wellbeing
