Literacy
Stories with familiar settings:
The children will read and discuss a range of texts, identifying key characters, events and settings. They will develop their writing skills by retelling stories, describing familiar places and creating their own simple narratives inspired by the texts they have studied.
Recounts:
Children will explore how recounts retell real events in the order they happened. They will develop their skills in using time connectives, sequencing events and writing clear sentences to describe experiences and activities.
Phonics
In phonics, children will develop their phonics skills using the Little Wandle scheme. They focus on reading and spelling words, blending sounds to read confidently, and writing simple sentences. The work helps children become more confident readers and writers while using their phonics knowledge in everyday reading and writing.
Numeracy
Money:
Children will recognise and identify different coins and notes, understand their values and practise counting money. They will also solve simple problems involving money, including finding totals and working out change in real-life contexts.
Time:
Children will learn to tell the time to the hour and half past the hour, recognise days and months, and use their understanding of time in everyday situations.
Science
Animals, including humans - Children will learn how to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. They learn how to identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. And finally, they learn how to describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animal.
DT
Children will be designing and making model fire engines. They will explore different materials, develop their cutting, joining and construction skills, and create a vehicle for a specific purpose. They will also evaluate their finished products and consider what worked well and how their designs could be improved.
Computing
Children will develop their understanding of algorithms and simple programs, learning how to create and follow instructions to achieve a desired outcome. They will practise problem-solving skills by predicting, testing and debugging their code
P.E.
Catching: children will learn how to track and receive a ball with increasing control and accuracy. They will practise a range of throwing and catching activities, developing coordination, timing and teamwork skills.
Athletics: children will develop a range of fundamental movement skills, including running, jumping and throwing. They will learn how to improve their speed, distance and coordination through a variety of fun and engaging activities.
R.E.
Children will learn about how people of different faiths and beliefs communicate, share ideas and show respect for one another. They will develop their understanding of belonging, community and the importance of listening to and learning from others.
