Maths at Sacred Heart
At Sacred Heart we follow the programme of work suggested by the National Numeracy Strategy.
Children are taught a range of mental maths strategies so that they can work effectively and accurately (follow the link below for 'Big Maths' to find out more).
This means teaching them basic number facts and tables as well as how to discuss their mental processes, so that they can apply strategies to their own work.
A wide range of resources including ICT and practical equipment are used in order to enhance children’s learning and reinforce basic skills and concepts.
Our Aim
- Help children recognise mathematics in a variety of situations
- Apply Mathematical thinking in problems
- Try new approaches and methods
- Develop recording skills
- Enjoy mathematics!
