Literacy

stories - This term, will be looking at classic stories such as Peter Rabbit. Children will recognise the features of a story. They will be able to sequence them correctly. Children will then be able to adapt this story and create their own, changing the characters and events.

Recounts - Children will learn that a recount is a piece of writing that tells about something that has already happened. They will focus on retelling real events in the order they happened, using the past tense and simple time words such as first, then, next and finally. The children will practise including key details about who was involved, where it happened and what took place.

Phonics

In phonics, children will develop their phonics skills using the Little Wandle scheme. They focus on reading and spelling words, blending sounds to read confidently, and writing simple sentences. The work helps children become more confident readers and writers while using their phonics knowledge in everyday reading and writing.

Numeracy

Multiplication and division - Children will learn that multiplication means adding equal groups and that division means sharing or grouping amounts equally. They will practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, making equal groups, and sharing objects into equal sets.

Fractions - hildren will learn to recognise and find one half and one quarter of shapes, objects and small quantities. We will explore what fractions mean by understanding that they are equal parts of a whole. The children will use practical resources and visual models to help them see how shapes and amounts can be divided into equal parts.

Science

In this unit, children apply their knowledge to explore how materials are used in practical and creative ways. They will investigate the suitability of different materials for specific purposes. They will focus on the properties and uses of glass and introduces children to how materials are chosen for furniture based on their properties. They examine a variety of fabrics, understanding their textures, durability and other properties.

DT

Children will explore different types of kites and learn about their basic features, including the frame, sail and tail. They will investigate which shapes and materials are suitable for making a strong and stable kite. The children will design their own kite, thinking carefully about the materials they will use and how they will join them together. They will then create and evaluate their finished product, discussing what worked well and what they might improve next time.

Computing

Animated stories - hildren will learn how to create simple digital stories using animation tools. They will explore how to add characters, backgrounds and movement to bring their ideas to life. The children will also practise sequencing events correctly, adding sound or dialogue, and using basic editing tools to improve their animations.

Music

Children will develop their listening skills by exploring a range of different pieces of music. They will learn to listen carefully and talk about what they can hear, such as the instruments being played, the tempo, and whether the music is loud or quiet. The children will begin to recognise changes in pitch and dynamics, and describe how the music makes them feel.

P.E.

Jumping -  Children we will be learning all about jumping. They will explore different types of jumps, such as jumping forward, backward, sideways, and even trying to jump as high as they can. children will learn how to land safely by bending their knees and keeping their balance. They will try combining jumps, like hopping, skipping, and jumping in sequence.

Gymnastics - Children will learn how to move their bodies in different ways, including stretching, balancing, rolling, and climbing. They will practice moving carefully and safely, using their arms and legs to control movements. Children will also try putting simple moves together to create short sequences, like linking a roll with a jump or a balance.

R.E.
