RE
Religious Education is at the heart of our learning. It helps all children—whatever their faith background—grow in understanding, respect, and spiritual awareness, while deepening their own connection with God.
This term, we are following the Salford Diocese pilot scheme, which supports our mission to nurture children’s faith and values in a meaningful and inclusive way.
Galilee to Jerusalem - Pupils will explore key events from the life of Jesus, focusing on his journey from Galilee to Jerusalem. Through stories from the Bible, discussion and reflection, children will learn about Jesus’ teachings, his relationships with others and the messages of love, forgiveness and faith within these stories. Pupils will be encouraged to ask questions, make connections and reflect on how these teachings can be applied in their own lives.
Through prayer, scripture, discussion, and creative activities, we aim to create a space where every child feels valued and encouraged to grow in faith, compassion, and understanding.
PSHE
In PSHE this term, our learning will focus on a variety of important life topics. Children will:
Keeping Safe
In this unit, pupils will learn how to keep themselves safe in a range of situations. This includes understanding personal boundaries, recognising trusted adults, and learning how to stay safe online. Children will be encouraged to talk about worries, ask for help when needed, and develop strategies for making safe choices. These lessons link closely to our RE learning on caring for ourselves and others, helping children to put values such as love, respect and responsibility into practice.
PE
In PE this term, Year 6 will be developing their skills in gymnastics. The children will focus on improving strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through a range of individual and paired activities.
Pupils will learn to:
Perform controlled movements and balances
Link actions together to create smooth sequences
Use rolls, jumps and shapes with good body tension
Apply safe practices when working on mats and equipment
Evaluate and improve their own and others’ performances
There is a strong emphasis on control, precision and creativity, as well as working cooperatively and showing respect for others. By the end of the unit, children will perform confident gymnastic sequences with clear beginning, middle and end.
Art
In Art, Year 6 will be exploring the theme “Express Yourself”. The children will use a range of materials and techniques to communicate ideas, feelings and beliefs through their artwork.
Pupils will:
Experiment with different media such as drawing, painting and mixed materials
Explore how colour, pattern and texture can be used to show emotions and meaning
Look at how artists express identity, culture and faith through art
Create personal artwork that reflects what is important to them
Children will be encouraged to reflect on how art can be a way of expressing beliefs, values and experiences, including how faith can inspire creativity. They will evaluate their work and discuss the meaning behind their artistic choices.
