Science
Science:
At our school, Science is taught through the Developing Experts Primary Science Scheme of Work, which follows the National Curriculum and ensures a rich, structured progression of knowledge and skills across all year groups. Each class covers topics in a sequence that best supports their learning, building on prior knowledge while making meaningful connections between concepts.
We aim to make Science an exciting, hands-on subject where children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate, and discover the world around them. Lessons are carefully designed to spark curiosity and inspire awe and wonder, whether children are exploring the forces that make things move, investigating the properties of different materials, or learning about living things and life processes.
Through practical experiments, engaging demonstrations, and thought-provoking discussions, pupils develop their scientific enquiry skills. They learn how to make predictions, carry out fair tests, observe carefully, record results, and draw conclusions. This helps them to think like young scientists—developing curiosity, resilience, and problem-solving abilities.
The Developing Experts scheme also introduces children to a wide range of real-life scientists and STEM professionals, helping them to understand how science is used in everyday life and inspiring them to see future possibilities for themselves.
By the time children leave us, they will have experienced a broad and balanced science education that not only equips them with knowledge about the world but also fosters a lifelong love of discovery and learning.
