Autumn 2

Literacy

In English, Year 1 will explore stories with repetitive patterns through the story Zog. The children will listen to and join in with repeated phrases, retell the story in order, and discuss the characters and events. They will use their understanding of the different features of a story to change and retell the story in their own words. 

 

Withing the second half of this term, we will look at information texts. Children will explore various texts and recognise the features such as titles, pictures, labels and subheadings. They will use this to help them write their own regarding castles.  

Phonics 

In phonics, children will develop their phonics skills using the Little Wandle scheme. They focus on reading and spelling words, blending sounds to read confidently, and writing simple sentences. The work helps children become more confident readers and writers while using their phonics knowledge in everyday reading and writing.

Numeracy

Addition and subtraction within 10 - Children will use objects, pictures, number lines and part–whole models to help them add and take away. Children will practise counting on and counting back, finding one more and one less, and solving simple number problems.

Shapes - Children will recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes, talk about their properties (such as sides, corners and faces), and explore shapes in everyday objects around them.

RE

 

Prophecies and Promise - In this topic, children will learn that God made promises to his people and that prophets shared God’s messages. Through simple Bible stories, children will explore how Christians believe God keeps his promises. They will think about hope, trust, and how these stories help Christians follow God’s path.

PSHE 

Valuing difference - In this topic, children will learn that everyone is special and different. They will explore how people may look different, have different families, abilities, or likes, and why it is important to be kind and respectful to everyone. Children will talk about friendships, feelings, and how to celebrate differences while treating others fairly.

 

Science 

Animals, including humans - Children will explore the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, and learn which body parts are linked to each sense. Children will investigate how their senses help them to understand the world around them. They will take part in simple observations and practical activities to describe what they can see, hear, smell, taste and feel. Children will also understand why their senses are important for keeping them safe and healthy.

Geography

Computing 

Creative computing - Children will use the website to draw, paint, design and create digital content. They will experiment with colours, shapes and text, and begin to use simple tools to create pictures, animations and stories.Children will learn how to make a placing game using the tools on the website. They will also create images on Purple Mash and use them to make a game.

 

 

DT

In design and technology this term, children will learn about fruit and vegetables. They will explore where different fruits and vegetables come from and learn about the importance of eating a healthy and balanced diet. Children will investigate a range of fruits and vegetables by touching, smelling and tasting them. They will learn basic food preparation skills, such as washing, peeling and cutting safely, and use simple tools with support. Children will design, make and evaluate a healthy food product, talking about what they like and how their product could be improved.

Music 

This term, we will focus on rhythm. Music is made up of long and short sounds called ‘rhythm’ and high and low sounds called ‘pitch’. As they dance, sing, and play instruments with the music in this unit, children will explore these sounds and how they work together.

P.E.

Football 

Move and control a ball with their feet, develop basic football ball skills, use simple sending and receiving techniques, recognise space and move safely and begin to take part in simple game situations.

Kicking 

Kick a ball using their foot with increasing control, aim a kick towards a target, balance on one foot while kicking with the other, follow simple rules and instructions, take turns and work safely with others.
