Literacy
In the first half of the term, children have focused on non-fiction texts, using the book Harry the Happy Mouse as a central example. Through this text, children have learned that non-fiction books give us real information about a subject and are organized in a clear way with titles, headings, labels, captions, and pictures to help the reader. Children will be able to identify and use them when writing their own non-fiction stories.
In the second half of the term, children continue exploring Harry the Happy Mouse, focusing on stories with familiar settings. They identify key story features such as characters, settings, events, and problem-solving, and use these ideas to plan and write their own stories.
The work develops children’s reading, comprehension, writing, and storytelling skills, encouraging them to use familiar experiences and creativity to structure their own engaging stories.

Phonics
In phonics, children will develop their phonics skills using the Little Wandle scheme. They focus on reading and spelling words, blending sounds to read confidently, and writing simple sentences. The work helps children become more confident readers and writers while using their phonics knowledge in everyday reading and writing.
Numeracy
Place value (within 10) - sorting and counting objects, recognising numbers as words, counting on from a number, counting back within 10, 1 more and 1 less of an amount, using a number line, lesser, greater and equal to.
Addition and subtraction (within 10) - recognising parts and wholes, part-whole models, fact families and number bonds within 10.
History
This half term we are learning all about toys from the past. We learn about the toys our parents and grandparents played with and how they are different to the toys we play with today. We will learn about different decades and order them chronologically.
Science
Seasonal changes - In this topic, children learn about the four seasons and how weather and the environment change throughout the year. They observe and record changes in day length, temperature, plants, and animals across the seasons. Children also explore how these changes affect daily life, such as clothing, activities, and nature.
Through hands-on observations and discussions, children develop skills in scientific enquiry, including noticing patterns, asking questions, and describing what they see.
Religious Education
Creation and Covenant - In this topic, children will learn about Creation and how Christians believe God made and cares for the world. They will explore the idea of a covenant, learning that God made special promises to people. Through stories and discussion, children will think about how to care for the world and treat others kindly.
PSHE
This half term we are looking at the topic 'Me and My Relationships'. We will learn about a variety of different feelings and explain how these might make us behave. We will think of some different ways to deal with 'not so good' feelings.
We will also talk about our classroom rules, why they are important and who we can talk to if we need help.
Computing
Introduction to Purple Mash:
Children will be bale to login into laptops and go onto the Purple mash website. They will be able to login and create their own avatar. They will learn how to access the work, how to complete it and how to hand it in.
Creative Computing:
Children will be able to access the tools to be able to create a picture. They will be able to create a jigsaw activity which others can access and complete.
Music
This half term we will be learning about 'My Musical Heartbeat'.
P.E.
Running:
In PE, Year 1 will learn about running in different ways, including running fast and slow and changing direction safely. The children will develop their balance, coordination, and stamina through fun activities and games. They will also learn to follow instructions and work safely with others during PE lessons.
Games:
In PE, Year 1 will take part in games that involve catching and throwing. The children will practise throwing with control and catching using their hands. They will develop their coordination and teamwork skills while learning to follow simple rules and play safely with others.
Art
In Art, Year 1 will explore mark making using a range of tools and materials. The children will experiment with different lines, shapes, and patterns and begin to express their ideas creatively. They will develop their fine motor skills and confidence while working safely and independently.
Music
This term we will be focusing on heartbeat in music. Every piece of music has a heartbeat - a musical heartbeat. In music, we call it the 'pulse' or the 'beat' of the music. When children are listening and singing to the music and songs in this Unit, they will try to find and keep the pulse or steady beat together. They might march, clap or sway in time - find a movement that helps them to keep the beat.
