Our Design & Technology curriculum gives children exciting opportunities to be creative, imaginative, and practical. Through hands-on projects, pupils develop their designing and making skills while learning how to solve real problems in fun and challenging ways.

Each year, every class takes part in three projects that build on previous learning. This helps children to practise and refine existing skills while also being introduced to new ones.

During each project, children will:

• Explore and evaluate a range of products

• Practise new skills through focused practical tasks

• Design and make purposeful products for a specific audience

• Reflect on and evaluate their own work, as well as that of others

Our projects cover a wide variety of themes, including structures, textiles, mechanisms, electrical systems, and food technology. Examples of past projects include creating textiles puppets, designing moving toys, making pneumatically controlled monsters, constructing gingerbread houses, and blending tasty fruit smoothies!

Children use a wide range of tools and materials, always under careful guidance. Health and safety is an important part of the learning process, and pupils are encouraged to recognise hazards and take the right steps to work safely and responsibly.
