Sara Burton is our Extended Schools Coordinator and looks after Blackburn Children's University and works with sevem school in Blackburn.
Children's University is a national programme for children in years 1 - 6 at our school. Members are rewarded for involvement in extra-curricular clubs and activities. Their achievements are celebrated at an annual graduation ceremony. Members are also provided with opportunities to engage in innovative learning activities and experience university life from a young age.
With our school, children take part in a variety of extra-curricular activities including school clubs, weekend activities, trips and holiday activities. Some of these weekend activities have included activities at the University Centre, Blackburn College including law and a Harry Potter themed activity as well as trips to the Chill Factore, Brockholes Nature Reserve and Cadbury World. During the holidays children have the opportunity to attend many activities which have included arts and crafts, creactive days, multi sports and animal fun activities.
Children can also be rewarded for visiting places outside of school such as mueeums, having swimming lessons, scouts, visiting the library, the list could go on! These places are called 'Public Learning Desinations' and are 'validated' as part of Children's University.
There are so many ways children can get involved, with something for everyone.
